Garlic Tip #6

Storing Garlic is important. Freshness is bestness. But it can all depending  on the type of garlic you buy.

If you buy garlic grown in China it will not last as long locally or domestically grown garlic. Here’s why……..

The garlic is picked, packed, and shipped by truck or train from in land China all the way to a seaside port where it is stored while waiting to be booked onto a vessel. The vessel takes roughly 23 days to ship across the pacific to a port in the U.S. or Canada. It is then stored while waiting to be transported inland to various destinations via truck or train. These destinations may be local food distribution centers or terminals. Where the retailer picks up the garlic and delivers it right to the store or to another facility for storage. This process can take up to three months.

If you buy it in a sleeve of 3-5 bulbs and don’t store it properly it won’t last very long.

For best results you need to store garlic in a cool dark place at room temperature. I would suggest storing the garlic in a “Garlic Keeper”. The holes in the bottom allow the temperature to stay consistent with that of the room thus helping your garlic stay fresher longer.

Check out the Koopeh Garlic Keeper. It’s the best looking one of the market. Just $14.99.
